Castlefergus Riding Stables

For any guests who may be interested in doing some Horse Riding while they stay with us at the Inn at Dromoland we recommend the Castlefergus Riding Stables which are located less than 10 minutes drive from the hotel.

They offer a wide range of options to anyone from Beginners to Advanced Riders. Castlefergus Equestrian is a family run Equestrian Centre that ensure all visitors have a fantastic equestrian experience. They cater for all levels of riding capabilities and particularly welcome beginners, both adult and children. We offer special riding instruction to the adult beginner and have taught many adults to ride for fun and competitively.

Pony Camps

Over the summer months of June, July and August they expand their family activities to include pony camps. For a really fun and action packed pony camp experience they run 4 day summer pony camps for children and teenagers . Each day includes a riding lesson, a practical lesson in some aspect of pony care, and various horse activities. Pony camps allow the young rider to increase their knowledge and skills in relation to riding and care of the pony.

Riding – improve your riding skills every day, supervised by qualified staff.

Pony Care – lectures and practical experience in rugging, bandaging, grooming, tack cleaning and other aspects of pony care.

Best Turned Out Pony – while the ponies rest, children/teenagers have the opportunity, to groom, plait and deck ponies out with ribbons etc.

Show Jumping Competition – friendly show jumping competitions are all part of the fun filled week.

Prizes – at the end of the week there is a fancy dress competition and rosettes are given out for best turned out ponies, and to winners of the show jumping, most improved rider and fancy dress competition.

Trekking on Local Country Roads

Horse trekking is an excellent way to experience and see the rolling countryside of Castlefergus Farm. They offer fully supervised treks that make their way through woodlands, lush fields and along the river Rhine. In springtime you will be greeted by the bleeting of newborn lambs.

They have a range of horses and ponies and can cater for beginners as well as experienced riders. Their rides range from 30 minute introductory rides for children, to 1 and 2 hour treks. These rides are available all year round. To avoid disappointment it is necessary to pre-book in advance.

Guidance from the trek leader and the sure footedness of our horses and ponies ensures the safety of the outing. They are happy to answer any of your questions in relation to the many magical and historical sites of the adjoining Ballyhannon Castle, the nearby Dromoland Castle and the Bronze Age site of Maughaun

Kids Mini Trekking

Pony trekking is attractive to all ages and all abilities. Small children in particular show affection towards ponies.

Over the summer months and to provide you with those happy holiday memories Castlefergus Riding Stables has introduced kids mini-trekking. Children from 6 years are able to ride out on ponies that are led by experienced staff. Children are accompanied by parents/carers and all enjoy this family activity. Hard hats are provided for Kids mini-trekking and it is advisable that long pants and closed footwear is worn.
